Quail Run work on track for October reopening; board explains two-week aerification closure

President Tom Foster told members the Quail Run golf renovation is progressing on schedule and on budget and that the general contractor is near laying sod in time for an October reopening.
The status is important to golfers and the budget process because Quail Run is a large capital piece of the 2026 budget and course closures affect play and revenues. Foster said the contractor was “very close to laying the sod” and that the project “is on schedule, and it is on budget.”
Members raised questions about course maintenance and the extended summer shutdown. Member Ray Young asked why aerification and related maintenance require a two-week closure. Chronologically, members first asked about aerification during the public-comment portion and staff then explained the work plan.
Director of operations (acting GM) Mike Dirmier explained the approach: instead of closing courses twice for separate green and fairway aerifications, staff will perform combined maintenance during a single extended closure to allow more comprehensive work and better course conditions afterward. “That’s gonna help the course for our superintendents ... it’s not just gonna be the fairway aerifications and the greens aerifications,” Dirmier said, adding that the longer continuous period will allow the crew to complete more work efficiently and should improve course conditions when play resumes.
Board members also gave schedule details for other short-term closures. Director Collins said North and Oakmont courses will be closed June 13–18 to permit resurfacing work and pool and parking-lot repairs to be done efficiently while the facilities are shut.
Members asked about sod management and whether the club maintains a nursery or sod farm. Dirmier and staff said facilities cannot operate a commercial sod farm on RCSC property but that staff maintain small turf-test areas and sometimes reuse sod between courses; staff said burying removed sod in place can reduce hauling costs.
Clarifying details: Quail Run sod laying and reopening was described as on schedule for October; the single aerification/maintenance shutdown is intended to consolidate work and improve outcomes; scheduled short-term closures for other courses were announced for mid-June.
