Garfield County commissioners approved the third‑quarter discretionary grant awards during the Aug. 11 meeting, granting $5,000 each to the Grand Valley Park Association, Roaring Fork Public Radio, Glenwood Springs Art Council and one other listed organization, and $3,000 to Andy Zenka’s Youth Empowerment program.

County staff reported the discretionary account held about $67,000 before the awards. Commissioners noted four requests at $5,000 each and one request the board reduced to $3,000 to encourage greater outreach to local school districts. A motion to award the funds as amended carried; the chair was authorized to sign the award documents.

No additional conditions were attached to the grants in the board discussion. Commissioners said they will monitor outcomes and revisit funding in future budget conversations if needed.
