A Stonehenge neighborhood resident told the Boulder County Board of County Commissioners that he has submitted petitions from 25 of 50 households asking the county to improve safety at the intersection of Arapahoe Road and Stonehenge Drive.
"The two principal safety issues are...zero vision for vehicles approaching or exiting Stonehenge Drive on Arapahoe Road, and there is no public access to crosswalks without walking on Arapahoe Road or US 287," said Richard Benzel, who said he has filed petitions and image documentation with county transportation channels and the "Vision 0 Action Plan." Benzel said the fix would be relatively simple: clear brush that blocks sight lines and add a short gravel path so pedestrians can reach the existing crosswalks.
Benzel said he had been promised improvements but that none had been completed; he said the petitions would be part of the public record should a serious crash or fatality occur. Commissioners acknowledged the concern and Chair Lochanin said she would check with transportation planning staff about the status and potential funding for corridor improvements.
No specific timeline, funding approval, or construction decision was made at the meeting; commissioners asked staff to report back on the status of the corridor improvements and any plan under the county's Vision 0 Action Plan.
