The council approved a street‑closure request from Junction City Retirement and Assisted Living to close Sixth Avenue between Alder and Birch Street on Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for an annual block party. Staff reported that public works, police and fire have no objections to the request.
Why it matters: The closure allows an annual community event and was granted with conditions described in the city’s attachment B, including nonexclusive use of city streets and usual public‑safety coordination.
Councilor Hancock moved approval and Councilor Leach seconded; councilors voted unanimously to grant the street closure. Staff noted the applicant submitted the request late and advised that future annual requests should be filed 90 days in advance to avoid denial. Staff also said the applicant is considering moving next year’s event to coincide with National Night Out.
