The Scappoose City Council approved the purchase of a new Public Works dump truck at its July 21 meeting.
Public Works Director Dave Sukow told council the proposed vehicle is a small-to-midsize dump truck with a 19,000-pound gross vehicle weight rating, and that the city's existing unit (a 2008 truck) is worn and in high demand. Sukow said staff solicited quotes from regional dealers and recommended Northside Ford as the lowest bidder. He noted the staff report contained a corrected purchase price of $97,204.66.
Council President Tyler Miller moved to approve the purchase; the motion carried on a voice vote. Sukow said additional outfitting—two‑way radios and emergency lighting—will add roughly $3,000–$4,000 in equipment costs not included in the dealer quote.
Budget impact: Sukow told council the purchase is within budget. Staff earlier budgeted $190,000 for equipment lines and had anticipated a higher sanding-equipment cost; the purchase price, including contingencies, was within the adopted appropriation.
Next steps: Staff will complete the purchase and outfit the truck for winter response and other public‑works needs.
