Commission Approves Increased Flexible Spending Account Limits for County Employees

Butler County commissioners approved increases to the annual maximum contribution limits and the unused balance carryover for the county’s flexible spending accounts, effective with the plan year beginning Nov. 1.
A county staff presenter asked commissioners to approve higher limits for the flexible spending account and limited-purpose FSA (the latter for employees on high-deductible plans, limited to vision and dental expenses). Staff said some risk exists if an employee leaves after drawing more benefits than they had contributed, but that such cases happen “very rarely.”
A motion to approve the revised annual maximum limits (presented in the meeting materials) and the carryover policy for the Nov. 1 plan year period was moved by Commissioner Wazak and seconded by Commissioner Herzet. The motion passed 4-0.
