Facilities Management staff described finding a badly cracked area of concrete that exposed a beam with substantial cracking and corrosion. Staff said they removed the concrete, planned to sand and weld a new, slightly wider plate across the beam and then replace and seal the concrete surface. Facilities said workers shut down the adjacent walkway when the damage was discovered to avoid a potential hazard.
Staff estimated the full repair cost at $17,393 and said they expected the work to be completed before winter. A motion authorizing the chair to sign the Simpson Construction contract passed 4-0.
