Tupelo council clears final change orders, awards contracts for drainage and sewer projects

The Tupelo City Council on Aug. 5 approved several change orders and contract awards related to local drainage and sewer projects and accepted a six‑month hot‑mix supply bid.

Council approved a $7,200 change order for the Daniel Cove drainage-improvement project after staff reported wet, expensive clay required removing a broader roadway subbase and additional paving. Kelly (city project staff) explained the work and the request.

The council approved a final change order for Haven Acres ditch improvements that reduced the contract by $31,002.16 but increased the contract calendar by 202 days to 200 days because of weather interruptions; staff said this will close the project out.

For sewer work, the council approved change orders closing the Southwest Pressure Line (described by staff as near Tupelo High School) with a final contract total reported at $1,088,219. A separate change order for the Tupelo SWPS sewer line produced a net decrease of $41,007 and staff said grass restoration is complete.

The council awarded a contract to a construction firm for the Tulip (Tupelo) Sewer Improvement SRF project with a contract amount of $2,780,776 and approved change order No. 1 for the Colonial Estates lift-station rehabilitation, a project staff said will benefit from a CDBG grant and related savings.

The council also approved a six‑month hot‑mix supply bid with no price change from the previous six‑month award.

All project approvals and change orders were approved by council motions during the meeting. Staff described several items as final change orders to allow contract close-out and said funds and grants are in place for the affected projects.
