He told council members the administration will revise outdated processes and systems and asked for council support to compete for qualified staff.
Stressing communication, the mayor said staff will do a better job explaining to residents what the city is responsible for and what property owners must maintain. He said Public Works and Community Development leaders will work on public service announcements and other outreach and that ordinance revisions to allow uniform street‑level cleanups are under consideration.
The mayor also highlighted recent community events at Highland Park, said the city will use the park more for large events, and praised collaboration with departments and nonprofit partners. Councilmembers voiced support and asked for continued updates during the budget process. No formal council actions on budget choices were recorded at the meeting.
