Aldermen approve several change orders on city projects; airport and gas-regulator bids tabled

The Olive Branch Board of Aldermen on Aug. 5 approved a series of change orders on ongoing construction contracts and delayed action on two bid openings to allow staff additional review.
The board approved change order No. 5 on the A & B Construction Co. contract for the Olive Branch Public Works Building, adding $6,185.60 and extending the contract by 39 days to a new completion date of March 31, 2026. City staff described the work as additional gravel and recommended approval; Alderman Gil Earhart moved the action and Alderman Collins seconded. The motion carried by voice vote.
The board also approved change order No. 1 for Grinder, Taber & Grinder, Inc., increasing that contract by $3,259.87 to a new total of $4,542,600.43 and extending completion by 12 calendar days to Dec. 15, 2025; staff said the adjustment paid for additional sand required onsite. Alderman Gamage moved and Alderman Thomas Dickerson seconded that motion, which passed by voice vote.
A deductive change order with Lehman Roberts reduced an annual surface-treatments contract by $29,900.50. Later, the board approved an additive change order of $35,146.79 with Vance Brothers for microseal/preservation work on a road segment that staff recommended rather than the originally planned fog seal.
Two bid items were tabled for further review: bids opened July 14 for airport apron rehabilitation and bids opened July 28 for the gas regulator station at Center Hill Road and Mississippi Highway 178. City staff said both items needed additional time to verify licensing and compliance, not solely low bid amounts. The board moved both items to the Aug. 19 meeting and approved the tabling by voice vote.
All listed change orders were approved during the meeting by voice vote; no alderman recorded a dissenting vote. Staff noted schedule adjustments and minor additional materials as reasons for the contract changes; no contested contractor eligibility or protests were recorded in the meeting transcript.
