The Clay County Commission voted 6-0 to deny a request to waive interest and penalties related to county taxes for Newmark Care Center LLC.
Deetta Jacobs, Administrative Services Director, told the commission that the company reported it had made payment on Jan. 2, 2025, expecting the payment would fall within a grace period. Jacobs said the company is based in New Jersey and the person who submitted the request, Shana Kellner, had offered to arrange for a local representative but none appeared at the meeting.
"We have a request for waiver of interest and fees from Newmark Care Center LLC. They are indicating that they made the payment 01/02/2025, expecting it to fall within a grace period for the payment of their taxes," Jacobs said.
Commissioner Willington moved that the commission mark the request denied; the motion carried on roll call 6-0. No local representative spoke for the applicant during the public hearing on the item.
