Clay County approves application for Missouri Blue Shield grant to buy mobile data terminals for deputies

The Clay County Commission unanimously approved a grant application to the Missouri Blue Shield program to support purchase of in-field mobile data terminals for sheriff's deputies.
Captain Amy Agderian of the Clay County Sheriff's Office told commissioners the office became eligible for the grant after receiving the Missouri Blue Shield designation on May 15. The program makes up to $50,000 available to designated agencies; Agderian said the office applied for roughly $58,000 worth of GTAC mobile data terminals and acknowledged the award amount could be adjusted by the state.
"This grant . . . allows for $50,000 to the agencies that have the designation," Captain Agderian said, adding the county's application is for GTACs that "will assist with in field dispatching availability for our personnel." Agderian asked the commission to approve submission of the application.
Commissioner Johnson moved to approve the application (agenda item 2025-240), and the motion passed on a unanimous roll call. County staff will submit the application and, if awarded, accept grant proceeds and purchase the equipment consistent with the county's purchasing rules.
Ending: Commissioners recorded a 5-0 vote to authorize submission of the application and thanked Captain Agderian for the presentation.
