Garf described service on the State Board of Education and the State Board of Regents and said she aims to support students statewide and strengthen pathways into higher education. Committee members, including Senator Milner and others, raised access questions for first-generation and Title I students; Garff said the University of Utah should be reachable and supportive for all students and said the state’s education institutions must work together to remove barriers.
Representative Ballard provided public comment endorsing Garff’s volunteer leadership and mentoring programs. The committee moved and passed a favorable recommendation to the full Senate; the University of Utah will consider Garff’s nomination once the Senate takes up confirmations.
