Legislative council has authority to place interns in standing committees and with floor leaders; interns draft amendments, research bills, and support committees in a nonpartisan manner. The program typically provides a monthly stipend (currently $3,500) and places interns under the supervision of professional council staff. Committee members discussed recruitment and whether to expand positions or adjust compensation; staff said no immediate recommendation to change stipend or positions was pending but noted the committee will coordinate with the law school and consider adding policy analysts alongside interns for the next session. Representative O’Brien moved to continue the program with at least 10 interns and Representative Haggard seconded; the motion carried by roll call.
