Karen Cronin, nominated to the Bridgerland Technical College Board of Trustees, received a unanimous favorable recommendation from the Senate Education Confirmation Committee after describing more than 15 years on the Box Elder School District board and local civic experience.
The nomination matters because Bridgerland — like other technical colleges — plays a role in workforce training, and the committee said it plans a separate September meeting to hear reappointments of trustees. Committee chair Senator Milner noted that, “by statute, they serve until someone takes their place,” allowing current trustees to continue serving while the committee schedules hearings.
Cronin told the committee she has advocated for policies and programs supporting students and teachers and has served on the Boys & Girls Club executive board. She cited experience as mayor of Perry and as a school-board member when describing why she wants to join the Bridgerland board, saying she wants to help expand access for immigrant and refugee students and to connect high-school career and technical education with postsecondary certificates. Cronin said technical skills will become more important as automation and artificial intelligence change the labor market.
Senators on the committee praised her CTE familiarity and local experience. Senator Reidy moved a motion to forward Cronin’s name to the full Senate with a favorable recommendation; the motion passed unanimously. The committee said other trustee reappointments will be scheduled for a September meeting so all trustees can appear.
Cronin’s next step is confirmation by the full Senate, which will consider the committee’s favorable recommendation.
