Staff explained the notice documented emergency dozer work and tree clearing using masticators; because the activity was emergency work the base did not complete the full Section 106 review in advance. "This was an emergency notification that they were unable to do the normal Section 106 process in advance," staff said, and added that the notice indicated the use of equipment that could disturb ground surfaces.
Commissioners pressed for clearer mapping and an update on whether the work was completed. One commissioner said the notice arrived Monday, June 30, and that they presumed the work was likely completed if it was wildfire response work; another asked staff to provide a map and tax-lot information so the commission could see precisely where ground disturbance occurred.
Staff said they lacked maps in the packet and offered to request a map and an informal update from base staff. Miss Lawler was named in the packet as planning to monitor the contractor’s work.
The commission did not take formal action beyond directing staff to seek clearer maps and an update; no archaeological finds or other onsite discoveries were reported at the meeting.
