The finance committee heard staff describe Ordinance 2025‑5201E, which would appropriate $1,000,000 from the University Fire Service Area fund balance to expand the Station 12 capital project.

Luke Butcher of the Emergency Operations Department said the original capital project was appropriated at $3.9 million and that the proposed $1 million appropriation would add an additional apparatus bay, an entry vestibule, exterior improvements and contingency funds. He said the University Fire Service Area Commission approved the additional appropriation on June 4 and that the University Fire Service Area fund balance is approximately $6 million.

Assembly members asked whether the fund balance remaining after the engines and this appropriation would be sufficient; staff indicated the fund balance would cover the appropriation and that the fund had sufficient balance but that some exterior improvements required additional clarity. No committee vote on the ordinance was recorded in the meeting minutes; staff offered to provide further detail about the specific exterior improvements when asked.
