Greeley council pauses Lincoln Park Commons redesign after debate over scale, materials and downtown alignment
Summary
City officials and residents debated a proposed redesign of the 5.7-acre Lincoln Park Commons, including a $4.2 million Phase 1 and a $20 million full buildout, and directed staff to pause further work to align the project with the broader Civic Campus and downtown redevelopment.
GREELEY, Colo. — The Greeley City Council on Wednesday directed staff to pause the proposed redesign of Lincoln Park Commons to allow further study of how the plan would align with the city’s Civic Campus and other downtown redevelopment projects.
The pause follows a lengthy council discussion and public presentation by city staff and design consultants on a phased plan for the 5.7-acre downtown common that would replace much of the park’s turf with hardscape, an amphitheater and new amenities. The Phase 1 budget presented to council is $4,200,000; the full master plan was described in the presentation at a $20,000,000 cost.
City staff and consultants told council the redesign aims to create a versatile “common” for events and everyday use, driven by community engagement and an economic-activation strategy. Diana, a city staff member presenting the plan, said, “Phase 1 focus us on the most impactful improvements that will immediately create community and activate the park.”
