Greeley plans phased sewer capacity upgrades near 40 Seventh Avenue to accommodate growth

City staff told the Water and Sewer Board May 21 they will begin phased sewer capacity improvements in early June to address limitations near 40 Seventh Avenue and support higher‑density development in the southwest portion of the city.
Sean (director) said the project will relocate and construct new sewer mains in multiple phases. The first phase, planned to run from June through mid‑July, is timed to occur when Montfort Elementary School and Aims Community College have limited attendance; it will cross Twentieth Street from the Aims property into Monfort Park and tie on the west side of the park. Major park construction will be delayed until after summer recreational and fall soccer seasons; the larger construction phase will occur after soccer season (starting in mid‑November) to minimize impacts on recreational programming. A final phase in January will upgrade additional sections to reach the lift station.
Sean described the phased approach as intended to reduce disruption to schools and park users while addressing capacity constraints caused by higher‑density development in the area. Communications staff will issue public notices and the city will coordinate with affected property owners. The board was told the project originates from the Sewer Collection Master Plan and has elevated urgency because of nearby development and the condition of the lift station.
