City council liaison announces resignation from HPC; commission discusses budget and plaque costs

WOODLAND PARK, Colo. — At the end of the meeting City Council liaison to the Historic Preservation Commission, Smitty, announced he will resign from the commission and step down as the council liaison, and the commission briefly reviewed its budget for the coming year.
Smitty said his last meeting was the current session and that his "reasons" for leaving included limited opportunities to be engaged as he expected. "Therefore, I am resigning from this because I do love to work with people and especially historical things, you know, especially with our city," Smitty said.
Commission members expressed regret at the announcement. Staff and commissioners also discussed the HPC budget; Smitty and staff reviewed the prior year's allocations, which included about $14,800 for the HPC budget with the largest amount previously assigned to Junction House asbestos work (about $11,900), and smaller amounts for poster and printing. City staff said they will advise whether the same allocation would be sufficient in the new budget year and reminded the commission to confirm line-item intentions, including whether funds were earmarked as match for a grant.
Ending: Staff said they will work with the administration to process the liaison resignation and will follow up during budget season to determine whether the previous allocation is adequate for next year.
