Board members recognize first-day openings, volunteer shoe drive and disability resource fair

Several board members also thanked Dave Lindeman and the district's construction project coordinators after an annual summer facilities tour that reviewed multiple South Area schools.
Board member (Miss) Wright and others praised first-day operations and a social-media story produced by GCR staff, singling out Lisonbee Kimmy for coordinating first-day visits. Wright said Space Coast's principal Dr. Connors had a "running start" with band and cheerleaders present.
Wright and other board members also recognized a volunteer-run shoe distribution organized by Edna Wilson that provided roughly 1,400 new pairs of shoes, allowing students to select footwear in a store setting rather than taking donated goods. The board thanked local law enforcement for visible support at bus-safety events and the facilities and maintenance teams for summer work that prepared school buildings.
No formal actions were taken during the recognitions portion; the remarks were acknowledgements of community partners and staff work.
