Board approves routine items including CSBA membership and authorizes legal alliance dues; one trustee objects to legal‑fund payment

At the August 2025 meeting the San Bernardino County Board of Education approved routine consent items and took three separate votes on association memberships and related dues.
The board approved the consent calendar and the adoption of minutes (with one abstention noted for the minutes vote). On action items related to professional associations, the board approved renewal of the county’s California School Boards Association (CSBA) membership and separately approved renewal of the CSBA Education Legal Alliance annual membership dues for 2025–26.
One trustee said she would not support the Education Legal Alliance dues because the Alliance pays for litigation and the trustee objected to funding a legal fund that might be used for lawsuits whose aims she did not support. Another trustee said CSBA defended Proposition 98 and was the only organization to sue the state in a recent case; that member supported renewing the dues for that reason.
The votes carried with a recorded dissent on the legal‑dues vote. Trustees asked staff to provide the CSBA budget in response to a request for additional transparency before future dues votes.
No other substantive policy decisions were made in these consent‑calendar and association items; the motions were procedural approvals to continue memberships and dues payments.
