The Board of Education on Aug. 11 acknowledged the retirement of Barbara Puglisi, an English teacher who retired in July after 28 years with the district, and approved the personnel report.
Superintendent Madeline Negron highlighted Puglisi's retirement before asking the board to approve the personnel report: "This is Barbara Puglisi, English teacher, who did retire at the July after serving 28 years. So I wanted to make sure that that was highlighted tonight." The personnel report was then moved for approval and adopted.
Board member Mister Wilcox recalled Puglisi's impact at Riverside High School, saying he had seen student speakers at a graduation name her as a major influence: "I would be remiss if I didn't mention it's, Puglisi there, hugs at, Riverside, tremendous educator, when I was at the Riverside graduation. And, both of the student speakers specifically called her out as 1 of the most important people for them in their lives there." Doctor Joyner praised Puglisi's compassion and service in a challenging school environment.
The personnel report, including the retirement, was approved by roll call.
