Board approves consolidated field‑trip guide, asks staff for calendar visibility

The Farmersville Unified School District board approved a consolidated field‑trip guide that compiles trips approved over the last two years and lists extended‑learning opportunities, district staff said. Trustees approved the guide after questions about how the guide affects future approvals and logistical visibility.

Board member Sabrina Gomez moved to approve the guide; the motion passed with board assent. District staff explained the guide includes trips that have already been board‑approved and that new trips not on the list — and any overnight excursions — still require a separate board transmittal for approval.

The guide is intended to reduce duplicative transmittals by creating a single reference for commonly recurring trips, staff said. "This is a guide that we've had in the past," a staff member explained, adding that staff members reviewed board transmittals from the prior two years to compile the list and included extended learning opportunities. The staff presentation said the guide does not change existing liability or permission‑slip requirements.

Trustees pressed staff for a calendar so the board and administrators can know trip dates in advance. Staff said they have been working on a master calendar and will post the most up‑to‑date calendar on the district website; they agreed to provide a monthly list of trips to the board as an information item. One trustee described the calendar as a "moving target" but supported the idea of posting and sharing dates with administrators and the board.

Action taken: motion to approve the field‑trip guide carried; staff will coordinate to create and publish a master calendar and supply monthly information to trustees. No overnight‑trip approvals were granted as part of the guide; those will continue to require board transmittal.
