The board adopted the county’s fiscal year 2025–26 economic development strategic goals and approved appointments to the Route 58 economic authority, staff reported.
Staff reviewed six strategic goals for FY2025–26: existing business outreach; establishment/recruitment of new businesses; promotion of Mecklenburg County as a place of business opportunity; identification of future uses for the IDA property; initial work on medical facilities; and a proposed business development strategic funds/budget. A committee motion recommended adoption of those goals; the board moved to adopt and approved them by voice vote.
The board also considered appointments to the Route 58 Roanoke Corridor authority (RIFA). Following committee recommendation, the board appointed Alex Gottschalk and Angie Kellett to four-year terms on the Route 58 RIFA, Tom Tanner to a two-year term, and Sterling Wilkerson as a four-year alternate, staff said. Supervisors adopted the committee’s nominations by voice vote.
Committee members discussed promotion priorities and recruitment efforts; staff said these strategic goals will guide outreach and budget planning for the coming fiscal year.
