Supervisors approve resolution to apply for CDBG funding for Oak and Surface roads

Mecklenburg County supervisors voted to authorize a resolution enabling the county to apply for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to fund construction work on Oak Road and Surface Road, staff told the board. The staff presentation said the county previously used a planning grant for the activity and that the resolution would allow the county to complete a construction-focused CDBG application. As part of the application, the county must waive building and zoning permit fees; staff estimated the waived fees at about $1,100 to gain access to up to $1,250,000 in federal funding. The resolution covers work in District 5, and a board member who had previously sponsored the planning grant moved to adopt the resolution. The motion carried by voice vote without dissent. Staff described the fee waiver and grant match as standard steps in CDBG applications and said the funding would fund development and construction phases that followed the earlier planning work.
