Treasurer reports uptake of 95¢ electronic payment option; county collected nearly $2.8 million in credit‑card receipts year‑to‑date

The Boone County treasurer told the council that a newly offered 95¢ electronic payment option has drawn taxpayer usage and generated substantial credit‑card collections so far this year.

The treasurer said that offering a 95¢ electronic payment option allowed taxpayers to pay online and that approximately 1,400 taxpayers used the 95¢ service; credit‑card collections totaled approximately $2.783 million from Jan. 1 through July 31. The treasurer said the 95¢ fee is remitted to the vendor and that the service has reduced manual processing work in the treasurer’s office.

Council members asked follow‑up questions about how many taxpayers used the option and whether the feature made work easier; the treasurer confirmed the office’s intent to continue the service and said use will likely grow. The treasurer’s proposed budget for the office was then moved, excluding salaries (salary lines were deferred to the broader salary discussion), and the council approved the non‑salary budget items by voice vote.

A council member noted the treasurer’s office had previously requested line items for statement processing and program application support and that the electronic payment option appears to be producing meaningful revenue collection efficiency.

The treasurer asked staff if they remembered how many tax payments were processed via the 95¢ option; staff estimated about 1,400 transactions which correspond to the $0.95 convenience fee and found the feature popular with taxpayers.
