Council approves closing dormant insurance fund and acknowledges sheriffcommissary report under new statute

The Boone County Council approved two administrative items Tuesday: closing an old cycle insurance fund with a balance of $33,483.34 and acknowledging receipt of the sheriff's commissary report covering Jan. 1through June 30, 2025, under a new statutory reporting requirement.
Auditor Debbie Crum presented a resolution to close fund 5206, described as an old cycle insurance fund not used since 2017, and move the balance of $33,483.34 into the commissioners' insurance line ending in 5122. Crum said the money will be moved to the commissioner's insurance line to consolidate insurance resources.
Separately, the council acknowledged receipt and review of the sheriff's commissary report for the first two quarters of 2025. County attorney Kevin Van Horn explained the statutory change that became effective July 1 requires the sheriff to provide a quarterly commissary report and for the council to establish a procedure to review it; Van Horn said the statute requires receipt and review but does not mandate approval. The council acknowledged the report and discussed establishing an internal acknowledgment procedure.
Both items were approved by voice vote; no roll-call tallies were recorded on the meeting record.
