Mayor Tony Krista told council that a firm working on the cement bridge project notified the borough that a section of Canal Street will close starting Aug. 18 for an estimated 64 days. The mayor said the closure will likely run from the bridge to an area near the gazebo and that the borough will publish a map and detour route on the borough app and website.
Krista said the closure runs into about Oct. 20 and coincides with other line relining and gas work projects in the Fourth Ward, creating multiple detours in the area through the fall and into next year. He asked residents and visitors to expect parking and route changes, and said the borough will update the public if the scope or duration changes.
Council members asked for further updates on specific work in other wards and noted the broader Main Street and PennDOT projects elsewhere in town are on staggered schedules. The mayor said he will circulate the closure map and keep council and the public informed of any changes.
