MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — City officials on Tuesday reported several municipal projects and training programs in active phases: the Spruce Street parking garage’s new equipment went live, Walnut Streetscape contractors will return soon, North Street final paving has begun and striping is planned pending weather, and the fire department is hosting a grant-funded regional rope-rescue training.
City Manager (name not specified in presentation) told council the parking authority began using replacement equipment at the Spruce Street garage and that staff is working through permit-card replacements for permit holders. Residents with concerns were asked to contact staff for direct assistance.
Staff said Walnut Streetscape contractors expect to return within a week to resume work. North Street’s final paving began the day before the meeting and striping is scheduled for the following week, weather permitting.
The fire department is hosting tri‑county training on rope rescue this week as part of a larger six-discipline program that includes confined-space rescue, auto extraction, hazmat, trench rescue and swift-water rescue. The sessions are part of a grant and will rotate among participating jurisdictions; staff said the training will increase the region’s rescue technician capacity.
Councilors thanked staff for the municipal-league conference hosting and for progress on capital projects; staff said more construction details and community impacts will be communicated as work proceeds.
