MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgantown City Council on Tuesday approved first reading of an ordinance authorizing a supplemental agreement to a real‑estate contract with the Federal Aviation Administration that would extend the FAA’s use of city property for navigational aids for another 20 years.
Staff said the present agreement was written in February 2005 and is set to expire in September. The proposed supplemental agreement grants the FAA permission to use and maintain navigational equipment sited on airport property and to receive necessary utilities. Staff told council the agreement is at no cost to the city; in separate supplemental arrangements the city receives funds for maintenance work around FAA facilities.
Council approved the first reading and took a roll call vote; the motion passed 6-0. City staff said the agreement is routine for airports hosting FAA navigational aids and that the extension ensures uninterrupted support for instrument approaches and other air navigation services provided at the airport.
