Supervisors authorize chair to sign juvenile-detention agreement with Scott County

The Muscatine County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 11 authorized the chair to sign an agreement with Scott County for juvenile detention services after Scott County accepted county markups and scheduled the agreement for its board this week.
County Attorney Jim Berry said he had sent markups to Scott County and that Scott County was amenable. "Once we received the signed copy from Scott County, it would become effective the date that Scott County signs it," Berry said, and noted that the prior month-and-a-half of the fiscal year would not be included in Muscatine County's costs; expenses would begin when the agreement is effective.
Berry told the board the agreement was likely to go to the Scott County board on June 14 (the transcript's reference to specific dates was discussed as the upcoming board meeting). The supervisors voted to authorize the chair to sign after the county received Scott County's signature; the motion carried unanimously, recorded as 4-0.
The board did not read the full contract terms into the record at the meeting; Berry said the agreement would become effective on the date Scott County signs and that cost-sharing would begin at that point. The board took no other actions beyond authorization for signature.
