Beavercreek to begin Spring House Park construction; $1.3 million pedestrian path funded

Brandstetter Carroll completed schematic and design-development work for phase 1, staff said, and the city manager has authorized the firm to prepare construction drawings. Erin, parks staff member, said the drawings will allow the city to bid and award the work this year and "hopefully start construction on those amenities this fall and winter, and then finish everything up by June." Staff said the phase-1 work (entrance road, parking lot, playground) is completely funded by a $1 million state grant; additional features such as restrooms, splash pad, shelters and more play equipment remain unfunded.
In related infrastructure planning, staff described a larger pedestrian-path project funded largely with federal dollars through the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission. Staff said the pedestrian path is roughly an $1.3 million project with about 80% grant funding. The path will create an extended connection from the area near Dominic Lafino Park and Kensington Glen across to Shaker Town Road and tie into existing sidewalks and the Creekside Trail; in-park work will include a 12-foot paved side path and a crosswalk with rapid flash beacons at Kensington Glen.
Staff additionally noted smaller capital projects funded or scheduled for this fall, including a paved parking lot at Wordinger Park (grant-funded) and paved path installations at Walnut Grove, Stafford Park and Virgo Lido Park to improve accessibility and connections between sidewalks, playgrounds and shelters.
