Whitfield County commissioners approved contracts to advance a long-planned Westside Park gym and community center, awarding a construction-manager engagement and an architectural contract funded from the 2024 SPLOST program. The Board approved hiring Moment Consulting as construction manager for $12,500, a step county staff said will help produce a fixed-bid construction price for the project, which includes two gymnasiums, an indoor walking track and meeting rooms. The motion passed 4-0. Separately, commissioners approved architectural and design services with Croft AE of Acworth, Georgia, also charged to the 2024 SPLOST fund; that motion passed 4-0. County staff identified the Westside gym as the largest remaining SPLOST project and said the construction-manager selection and design award are intended to move the project to a construction-ready stage. The meeting record shows the county issued an RFP for construction management to prepare the fixed-bid package. Commissioner Jones moved both motions; commissioner Thomas seconded the architect award and the board approved both items unanimously. Both contracts draw from SPLOST 2024 funds; commissioners discussed the timing of remaining SPLOST work and said staff will prioritize the outstanding projects in the coming week.
