The Rutland Town Select Board approved two police-department procurement actions at its Aug. 12 meeting: purchase of seven Glock duty pistols and authorization to sell a surplus 2014 Dodge Charger at auction.
Why it matters: The purchases and disposals update police equipment and recover funds for the town’s depreciation fund. The board approved spending $5,149 for the Glock pistols and authorized the police to sell the uninspectable 2014 charger to the highest bidder, placing proceeds in the equipment depreciation fund.
Chief Ed Dumas briefed the board on the Glock procurement: the town needed “blue label” law‑enforcement Glocks that are sold through a limited dealer network. A vendor in the region, Peros, had the requested models in stock; the quoted total for seven pistols was $5,149. The board voted to approve the purchase as presented.
The police also asked permission to sell an uninspectable 2014 Dodge Charger that has frame issues and cannot pass inspection. The board authorized the police to sell the vehicle to the highest bidder and deposit proceeds into the police equipment depreciation fund. The motion carried by voice vote.
Dumas told the board the department would also offer the old service pistols for sale; a local dealer agreed to purchase them at the previously quoted price (reported at $300 per gun) and to apply proceeds toward holsters and other new-equipment purchases.
Ending: The department will proceed with the Glock purchase and begin disposition of the 2014 Charger and surplus firearms. Town staff will process invoices and route funds to the equipment depreciation account per board direction.
