Barrington officials report large turnout at National Night Out; trustees note traffic and intersection concerns

Village officials on Aug. 11 recapped a large turnout at Barrington’s National Night Out and raised a community traffic concern stemming from recent lane changes.

President Moran thanked staff and volunteers for the event, saying the effort drew a very large crowd and noting food numbers when describing turnout: "we met 2,300 people in the community" and "I know there were 2,400 or 2,200 hamburgers, and they cooked almost 2,000 of them." Several trustees echoed the thanks: Trustee Scholene said she had driven past the event and that her daughter attended, and Trustee Brigge said she staffed a village tent and received "a lot of good feedback" about upcoming capital improvements.

Trustee Prigge raised a safety and traffic concern related to recent lane reductions on Main Street, advising drivers and vendors not to block the intersection. She said, "Make sure you're not blocking the intersection because that's been a problem since we went down to 1 lane, and we'll be for another few weeks." No formal action or directive was recorded; the remark was made as part of trustees' remarks and not as a motion.
