Enterprise Drive condo association asks Verona to review separate trash charges

During the public comment period on Aug. 11, Kristen Behring, president of the associations on Enterprise Drive, told the Verona Common Council her condominium association is being billed for trash service while neighboring condo associations receive pick-up covered through taxes.
“My name is Kristen Behring and I am the president of associations on Enterprise Drive,” Behring said. She said her association’s eight-unit row houses receive quarterly bills of $709.28 — “to the tune of almost $3,000 a year” — and that other nearby condo associations do not pay because garbage trucks will not go up a private drive. Behring said her units have rear garages only, and Waste Management told her crews would not pick up unless cans are placed at the front rather than at the rear.
City Administrator Jamie Alek clarified the council cannot take action on items not on the agenda but said staff would record the complaint and follow up. Alek told Behring that staff would take a look at the situation and get back to her; the council asked staff to confirm contact information so city staff can investigate.
No formal action occurred during the meeting. The transcript shows the city administrator and staff agreed to review the billing discrepancy and Waste Management access constraints and to follow up with Behring.
