At the Aug. 7 meeting, the Board of School Trustees approved declaring various transportation parts, signage and administrative items as surplus as the district completes a bus fleet transition.
"Attached in your board docs, you'll find various pictures of items that we are requesting to be declared surplus. They were, some signage, from or lighting from east, various transportation parts, and, a chair form from the administrative service center," a district staff presenter said when introducing the surplus list. Staff said the district has transitioned to Thomas buses with Cummins engines and is clearing out parts no longer compatible with the current fleet.
The presenter said some parts — seat covers and filters that match older international buses — may be sellable to operators who still use that equipment; much of the remaining material likely will be disposed. The board moved and seconded approval of the surplus declarations and recorded affirmative roll-call votes.
The board did not attach special conditions to the surplus approvals during the public meeting; staff indicated the intent to sell reusable parts and discard items not marketable. No specific sale process, reserve price or estimated proceeds were presented during the open session.
