Council authorizes $17,850 amendment to CSW for Park Road rehabilitation construction support

The Fairfax Town Council approved an amendment on Aug. 6 adding engineering‑during‑construction services to the Park Road Rehabilitation and Improvement Project. Public Works Director Kristen Arnold told the council CSW (Civil/Structural/Water consultant) prepared the project design and is best‑positioned to provide timely review of contractor submittals, respond to requests for information (RFIs), perform site visits and prepare record drawings.
The amendment covers attendance at the pre‑construction meeting, review of submittals and RFIs, site visits, preparation of a final punch list and record drawings, and related project management. Staff recommended the amendment because careful design oversight during construction reduces the risk of specification gaps, unanticipated field issues and costly change orders; cost control and quality assurance were cited as the main advantages.
Councilor Barbara Kohler moved to approve the amendment and Councilor Gary Gellley seconded; the motion passed on a roll call vote. The amendment amount is not to exceed $17,850. Staff said the town will continue coordination with utility agencies and other partners, and will provide council updates as project milestones occur.
