The Greenwood Stormwater Board voted Wednesday to suspend work on the Native Prairie Maze concept plan until decisions on a separate Main Street reconstruction project are finalized. The board approved the pause by roll call during its Aug. 13 meeting. Board members said the Main Street work could affect drainage and water-quality measures planned for the maze site and that pausing the maze design would avoid duplicative work or construction conflicts. “I think it might be beneficial just to kinda hold the 50% right now,” a board member said during the presentation of 50%-stage concept plans. City staff said Main Street is being redesigned “as more of an entrance to the city” and that the parcel identified for the Native Prairie Maze could potentially help manage stormwater runoff. Staff recommended suspending active work on the maze until Main Street construction decisions and details are available so the projects can be coordinated. The motion to suspend activities on the Native Prairie Maze passed on a roll call with members recorded as voting aye, including David Payne, Hartsell and Leanne Waller. The board did not adopt new design decisions during the meeting; the item was placed on hold for a future agenda when Main Street project details are known. The suspension affects the consultant work at the 50% design stage. Staff said the board will resume design decisions when the Main Street project reaches a point where coordination and construction sequencing are clear. No budget votes or contract changes were made at the meeting on the maze; the action recorded is procedural (suspension of work) rather than a funding commitment. The board did not set a date for reconsideration; staff will return the item to the agenda when coordination with the Main Street project is feasible.
