Engineering, public works and public safety reports note storm damage, project progress and staffing training

Township staff and board liaisons offered routine operational updates at the Concord Township Council meeting on Aug. 6 covering public safety incidents, sewer and public‑works maintenance, planning commission activity and several infrastructure projects.
Public safety: Vinita (public safety liaison) summarized Fire Marshal activity in July, reporting an undetermined‑cause building fire on Patriot Lane (investigation assisted by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal) and a vehicle fire at Baltimore Pike and Brinton Lake Road determined to be a mechanical failure in a wheel assembly. Vinita said deputy fire marshal Kelvay Chu presented a fire‑safety briefing to CHOP staff and the township held a CPR/AED training for staff and volunteers on July 29.
Sewer and public works: Councilmember John Gillespie reported the sewer department managed extreme rain and heat in July with only minor problems; the control building roof was replaced and ultraviolet disinfection work continued. Public Works completed vegetation maintenance to improve roadside safety, repaired pickleball courts where the playing surface meets fencing, refreshed dog‑park landscaping and filled potholes and stormwater culvert replacements in July. Gillespie noted some in‑house work produced cost savings versus outsourcing.
Planning and engineering: Planning Commission chair Larry reported July meetings on July 14 (agenda) and July 21 (public), and that the commission recommended approval of the Passaic subdivision at 113 Kirk Road (two‑lot subdivision). Township Engineer Nate said the road program will start the following week with contractor AF Damon and listed streets where work is planned (Matson, Heritage Hill, Spring Valley Road, Rochester Road, Jones Drive, Cross Creek), plus striping and patching on Britton Lake and Shafertown. Nate reported the Newland Way Basin retrofit is substantially complete and the Carter Way stream‑bank restoration permit has been approved pending final paperwork from regulatory agencies.
Township Manager Amanda reminded residents of upcoming budget outreach and said staff is considering a resident survey as part of budget outreach for capital planning. The manager also noted a concert and event season schedule and asked residents to watch township communications for programming updates.
No formal action was taken on these reports; staff and commissioners will continue project coordination and periodic reporting to council.
