Richfield council backs Livable Communities grant application for proposed small-business co-working center

The Richfield City Council approved, on the consent calendar Aug. 12, a resolution supporting a Livable Communities demonstration account grant application to the Metropolitan Council for a proposed small-business center co-working space at 6440 Nicollet Avenue South.

City staff described the item as a grant-application support resolution; council members expressed enthusiasm for the project. "I'm especially excited about 7 c, the development of a proposed small business center co working space. It's gonna be a great addition to the city," Council member Burke said during consent-calendar discussion. The consent calendar containing the resolution, the first reading of an ordinance amending city code section 601 (multifamily recycling definitions and requirements), and an architecture and engineering services contract for Veterans Memorial Park improvements was approved in a single motion.

The council did not take separate roll-call votes on each consent item during the meeting; approval of the consent calendar means the items listed were approved as recommended and will proceed through any standard administrative steps required by each project or grant application. The resolution supports staff in applying for Metropolitan Council Livable Communities funds for the proposed co-working space at the noted Nicollet Avenue address; specific grant-award decisions remain subject to the Metropolitan Council's review and awarding process.
