Council reviews Oxford Properties mixed-use rezoning for 29.26 acres on McIntosh Parkway

Oxford Properties LLC told Newman City councilmembers the firm seeks to rezone 29.26 acres near McIntosh Parkway and Wilmot Way from commercial and multifamily legacy zones to a mixed-use development (MXD) that would include 329 apartments, 70 for-sale townhomes and roughly 26,760 square feet of retail, office or restaurant space. The council discussed the proposal at a work session and was told the item will be returned for a public hearing on Aug. 26.
Melissa Griffiths, attorney for Oxford Properties LLC, said the plan was developed from an earlier master plan and settlement agreement dating to 2007–2008. "This plan is a long way from where we first started," Griffiths said, describing the proposal as an "evolution" of earlier mixed-use concepts for the parcel. Paul Austin, the developer’s representative, said the design concentrates for-sale townhomes on the southern triangular parcel and rental apartments on the northern parcel for reasons of circulation and retail visibility.
