West Boggs seeks community foundation grant for playground shade and beach‑house drainage

Park manager Nathan told the commissioners that the county did not receive a recent grant for the golf course but is pursuing a Martin County Community Foundation grant of about $19,952 to fund drainage work at the West Boggs beach house and shade sails for a playground installed in 2022. Nathan said the beach house has leaked for roughly 25 years and that park maintenance repaired plumbing and electrical issues and replaced the roof. He said the structure’s concrete bones are sound and that repairing drainage and adding shade will improve safety and comfort for users without rebuilding the entire facility. Park staff have an estimate from Waggler & Sons Construction of about $8,250 for concrete sidewalks with curbs and catch basins that will redirect water around the beach house. Nathan said drainage is the priority and that the community foundation might fund either drainage work or shade structures; the park will pursue the grant application. A motion to allow the park to apply for the grant passed by voice vote.
