Veteran services reports steady caseload; no widespread homelessness found during summer checks

Terry Slott, speaking for Veteran Services, reported that county veterans service officers met with 65 veterans in June and 68 in July, handled several hundred phone and electronic contacts, and conducted eight health and welfare checks over the two months.
Slott said staff met with Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs representatives and local partners to discuss resources for homeless veterans and job placement programs. He described a Veterans Co-Op meeting that reviewed an emergency plan of action.
When asked whether the county’s homelessness situation had changed, Slott said there had been no confirmed increase: staff investigated one reported encampment that turned out to be empty and learned the person may have moved out of state. "Currently, nothing has really changed," he said.
The committee accepted the report and had no additional action items; county staff said they will continue outreach and coordination with WDVA and other partners.
