In an Aug. 5 public comment, Chantal Proninger said publicly available accounts show some large tech data centers have requested millions of gallons per day for cooling and that companies sometimes treat water use as proprietary, which she said warrants stricter local contract terms.
Acting City Manager responded in the meeting that the city's understanding is the proposed facility would be low impact and that the cooling system would operate as a closed, recirculating system: "it's a closed system...it's not like we're constantly using water," staff said. City staff said they would follow up with the resident on water‑use details.
No council action was taken; staff said they would follow up with the commenter and supply any additional technical clarifications.
