Dozens of residents and local business owners urged Palm Coast city council on Aug. 5 to preserve Palm Harbor Golf Course and to reject any sale or privatization that would convert the 140‑acre course to housing or other development.
Sharon Resnick, who identified herself as a decades‑long resident, told the council that the course provides generational recreation, wildlife habitat and stormwater management functions, and called an asking price of $1.8 million for 140 acres "highly suspicious and undervalued." Several other residents echoed concerns about losing an open green space and argued the city should explore new management options.
Local business owner Daniel Cope, who operates golf‑related businesses, told the council he could take over management without a subsidy and offered a plan to return the course to greater community use through events, youth clinics and charity tournaments. Cope said his company would not ask the city for money and that a new management approach could stop current operating losses.
City staff told council the Palm Harbor Golf Course is scheduled as a future agenda item for Aug. 26; Acting City Manager noted staff is preparing financial data for council review and that staff had already asked the proposer (Mr. Cope) to meet with staff ahead of the Aug. 26 agenda item. No binding action to sell the course was taken at the Aug. 5 meeting.
Context: The council did not vote on sale or management at the Aug. 5 meeting. Staff will present more detailed financials and options at a scheduled future agenda item.
