Commissioners approve budget amendments, discuss road materials and equipment funding

The Mills County Commissioners Court approved multiple budget amendments after a budget workshop that addressed precinct budgets, road materials, vehicle repairs and a possible equipment purchase. Commissioner Williams moved to approve the amendments; Commissioner Head seconded and the court approved the motion.

Commissioners and precinct representatives debated moving funds among line items, particularly shifting dollars into road-materials lines after heavy July rainfall damaged work in progress. One commissioner said the July 14 inches of rain set back road repairs and asked for transfers from other lines into road materials to finish projects started earlier in the year. Road and Bridge budget lines for repairs, tires and materials were discussed; specific line-item reallocations were not fully enumerated on the record.

The court discussed an equipment purchase described as a “roller.” One commissioner asked whether a down payment could secure a unit now rather than having staff search for another unit that might require long-distance travel; the matter was left for staff to follow up with the seller and report back. Commissioners also discussed vehicle repair charges, tire bills and parts-ordering discrepancies raised during accounts-payable review. Staff reported that credits and reorder situations affected the current invoices and that some invoices or credits might have been sent to other offices.

By voice vote the court approved the requested budget amendments (motion carried). Commissioners directed finance staff to prepare the administrative transfers and to return with any outstanding quotes or purchase terms for the proposed equipment before final purchase authorization.

No formal amendments to county policy were made; the action was limited to budget transfers and amendments as reflected in the meeting packet and motions on the floor.
