Council hears administrator report: SafeBuilt building-inspection launch and plans to pursue annexation of 78-acre parcel

The village administrator told council that the village has launched SafeBuilt and now has a building inspector on contract; the administrator said permit processing will move to an online portal (Community Core) starting immediately.

The administrator said SafeBuilt is handling building-inspection duties and that, beginning August 6, applications and permits will route through the portal; for residents without Internet access the administration will accept in-person applications. The administrator said SafeBuilt will confirm that any permitted work meets state minimum building standards before issuing permits.

Separately, the administrator said the village is working with a landowner who seeks annexation of approximately 78 acres east of the bowling alley (north side of Route 256). The administrator said the landowner is preparing plans to present to planning and zoning and council; council agreed that annexation-related legislation was on the agenda and that further discussion would follow in the appropriate committee or session. Council voted to enter an executive session later in the meeting for economic-development matters related to annexation and other topics.

Council members did not take a final action on annexation at the meeting; the administrator said legislation related to utilities for annexation would be considered that evening and that the landowner is preparing materials for formal review by planning and zoning and council.
