Council annexes and zones 4.55 acres east of Wisconsin American Drive for commercial development
Summary
The council unanimously adopted an ordinance annexing about 4.55 acres adjacent to West State Highway 23 into the city and zoned the parcel C2 (General Commercial), a step the community-development director said aligns with the city's cooperative plan and a future buyer's development intent.

The Fond du Lac City Council on Aug. 13 unanimously approved Ordinance No. 3813 annexing approximately 4.55 acres on the south side of West State Highway 23, east of Wisconsin American Drive, and Ordinance No. 3814 to zone the annexed land C2 (General Commercial).
Community Development Director Benson explained the annexation fits within the city’s cooperative plan (an intergovernmental agreement) with adjoining towns identifying growth areas where property owners anticipate more intense development or need city services. Benson said the parcel is immediately east of Wisconsin American Drive (the former Hive site) and that a prospective buyer is seeking annexation to access city services for future development of roughly 4 acres fronting Johnson Street. Planning Commission reviewed and recommended the C2 zoning designation.
Councilors moved, seconded and voted unanimously to adopt the annexation and zoning ordinances.
Discussion vs. decision: the presentation was informational and included the planning commission recommendation; council formally voted to annex and zone the property and both ordinances passed unanimously.
